FOLLOW FRANCIS UNTIL ASSISI

Description

You can make this itinerary in different ways:
- by foot if you would like to go along the same route of the Saint slowly and devoutly, searching for the spirituality that is released by nature;
- by bicycle if you would like to link spirituality with wellbeing and you want to respect the nature that Francis of Assisi loved and praised;
- by car if you prefer dynamism and freedom but at the same time you want to admire the striking sceneries and views of the Umbrian hills.

By making this itinerary, you can link spirituality with wellbeing and prayer with art thanks to guided tours in cloisters and hermitages. Moreover you can also taste all the traditional specialities. If you want, you can require the “Credenziale” which is a trip document that differentiates each pilgrim in all his trips. The Credenziale shows the dates and stamps of the places of accommodation.

Do you know that...

Pope Francis is the first Pope who chose the name “Francis”. During the first audience with the press, he “gives” the journalists the most precious “backstage”: the moment of his election and the choice of the name, which moved the entire world.

“I was seated next to the Archbishop Emeritus of Sao Paulo and Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Clergy, Cardinal Claudio Hummes: a good friend, a good friend!”- he said.

“When things were looking dangerous, he encouraged me. And when the votes reached two thirds, there was the usual applause, because the Pope had been elected. And he gave me a hug and a kiss, and said: “Don't forget the poor!” And those words came to me: the poor, the poor. Then, right away, thinking of the poor, I thought of Francis of Assisi.”

Tau and Francis of Assisi

“He felt deep reverence and love for the Tau. He recommended it in his sermon and he wrote it in his letters” (FF1079). The Tau is the last letter of the Hebraic alphabet.  It has a deep symbolic value and It represents salvation and God's love ever from the Old Testament.  The Tau is the sign of redemption. It is already possible to find it in the Catacombs of Rome because Early Christians thought that its shape was similar to the Cross. Francis of Assisi praised it so much for the same reason. He gave the sign a new life because Francis of Assisi thought to be a man, “who was saved by God's love and mercy”. Moreover the Saint thought so much that the Tau was a real sign of its salvation and of the victory of God against evil that his stigmata are the embodiment of it.
